Depart from the pier with your guide for the short drive to Funchal's city center. Upon arrival  begin your approximately 3.5-hour food walking tour through the historic streets of Funchal. Along the way, explore the culture and history of the city, hidden gems, and local foodie favorites. We will stop at various food-tasting locations that highlight the best regional flavors that Madeira has to offer.

Madeiran Food and Drink Tastings

Today's excursion features a wide array of epicurean delights. Included are a scrumptious homemade local pastry in Funchal, famous Madeira honey cake, a local delicacy of pork in wine and garlic, delicious local espada (succulent grilled tuna), grilled Portuguese sausage (chouriço), home-baked bread, exotic fruit from the local farmer's market, Madeira wine, local beer, quality Portuguese wines, cherry brandy and poncha, Madeira’s most traditional tipple.

Wine Tasting at Blandy's Wine Lodge

One of the highlights of your foodie walking tour is a tasting of the world famous and renowned Madeira wine at The Blandy Wine Lodge, which was once a 17^th-century monastery. It now provides an ageing store for thousands of liters of the highest quality Madeira wines, namely the acclaimed Blandy's Leacock's, Cossart Gordon and Miles.

At the end of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately 3.5 hours and approximqtely 3.5 km, at times over uneven and cobblestone surfaces, sidewalks and curbs, with three steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and a flight of stairs to access toilets in one of the venues. This tour is not suitable for guests with food allergies, guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Guests must be at least 18 years old to participate in tastings of alcoholic beverages. The tour sequence may vary. Space on this tour is extremely limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
