Excursion tour at Beppu

Enjoy a day of natural wonder and local craftmaking on this charming tour of Beppu and surrounding communities.

Drive just 15 minutes your first stop at Beppu city, a traditional bamboo crafts center where you can learn about the tradition of bamboo making and experience it yourself. Enjoy your craft project that includes an element of bamboo making, decorating a bamboo bell out of colored bamboo sticks.

Drive 20 minutes to stroll in the Jigokus, meaning "Hells" in Japanese. Due to spewing gas, thermal mud, and boiling water that has persisted for over a thousand years, this area received "hell" as its affectionate nickname.

There are 8 jigokus in total at Beppu including the cobalt blue ocean "hell" Umijigoku, and deep-red blood pond hell Chinoike Jigoku. Visit these two famous Jigokus today, with the opportunity to not only enjoy the hot springs, but also luxuriate in a foot bath at Chinoike Jigoku.

After two hours to explore these two Jigokus, make the return 20-minute drive back to the port.

Please note: There is moderate walking involved on this trip, less than 100 meters on a well-paved road at Chinoike Jigoku and 100 meters on stone paving at Umi Jigoku, making it suitable for those with limited mobility. Guests are cautioned to watch their step at the hot springs. Casual clothes and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
