Excursion Blending workshop at classified wine estate tour at Bordeaux
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
In the wine world, Bordeaux is famous for its blended wines. Learn the secrets of this mysterious art in the most perfect place possible, the heart of the Medoc vineyards. Blending depends on the climate and is orchestrated by the winemaker, who is considered a true artist in the chateaux. The art of blending is meant to showcase the estate's terroir and grape varieties.
Take the 1.25-hour drive to Chateau Lagrange in the Saint Julien Appelation. Interactive and entertaining, the Chateau Lagrange's blending workshop is a fantastic introduction to the unique and traditional Bordeaux's know-how in selecting grape varieties from the best parcels of the vineyards to make the "Grands Vins."
The estate is located in the west of the Saint-Julien appellation right in the heart of the Médoc vineyards. The Japanese group, Suntory, acquired the domain when the purchase was signed by the company president, Mr. Keizo Saji, in 1983. This first step was to mark the rebirth of Château Lagrange. After twenty years of dedicated work, Lagrange had once again found recognition amidst its peers.
Working with a member of the Chateau's team, who can explain the notion of terroir and the characteristics of a Grand Vin, taste a selection of barrel samples from the last vintage, and create your own blending. You could also taste Château Lagrange's wine and compare it with your own cuvée.
Make the return trip to the ship.
